Letter : London, Ont., to Edgar Dewdney, Ottawa, 1892 Jan 4.

Manuscript copy in ink of an ALS from C. S. Simonds to Minister of the Interior, Honorable Edgar Dewdney, requesting formal authorization from Dewdney for "Wm. Smythe Parker Esq. of Tp36 R26 W of 4th Meridian" to make a homestead entry in the North West Territories for Simonds. Simonds states that he will forward the authorization to Parker with the necessary fees. Manuscript note on verso in Simond's hand relates that authority was received on 1892 Feb 3.

Edgar Dewdney, engineer and politician, emigrated to British Columbia in 1859. Lieutenant Governor of the North-West Territories from 1881 to 1888. In 1888, became Canada's Minister of the Interior and Superintendent of Indian Affairs. Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia from November 1892 until 1897.
